Mr. Anthony Qing: Chinese Chocolate Master!


Tuesday 13th of March : China pre-selection for World Chocolate Master.
Paul Halliwell, Asia Pacific Sales Director, Jean-Marc Bernelin, President of Jury, proclaimed Mr. Anthony Qing as a winner of “Chinese Chocolate Master”.
Anthony will represent China in Paris for the final in October 2007.

Mr. Anthony Qing, a 27 year-old pastry chef from Shanghai currently working for St.Regis Hotel Shanghai walked off with the title China Chocolate Master. Previously Anthony spent two years at Grand Lisboa Hotel Macao as an assistant pastry chef. Undoubtedly with his skills he will make a big impact on the China gastronomic chocolate society in the months and years to.

The “World Chocolate Masters pre-selection China took place in The Regent Hotel in Shanghai, This was the first time WCM had been held in China. The competition was Co-organized by Barry Callebaut China and Edward Keller (Shanghai) Ltd. The agent for Carma and Cacao Barry products.

Eight competitors challenged around the theme ‘National Myths and Legends’. All the competitors created showpieces, and produced dipped and moulded pralines, pastries and mystery desserts.


Mr. Jeffrey Koo
( 28 ) won the Taste Award, for which he will travel to Australia to Savour Patisserie School for a course later this year. Jeffrey is currently working for Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong as a pastry chef.

The international jury comprised some of the top names in the food and beverage industry in Hong Kong Macao and China, they were, Mr. Jean-Claude Wiebel, Executive Chef at Grand Hyatt, Shanghai, Mr. Eric Perez proprietor Visage, Mr. Thomas Lui, Executive Pastry Chef at JW Marriott Hong Kong, Mr. Tony Wong Executive Pastry Chef at The Royal Garden, Mr. Herve Lemonon, Pastry Chef at Mandarin Oriental Macao.
