National Selections: Report

Carmelo Sciampagna : Italian Chocolate Master

Monday 22nd of January : Italian pre selection for World Chocolate Master.
Giuseppe Nobile, Italian Sales Director for Cacao Barry, Callebaut and Carma brands , and Andrea Slitti, President of the jury, proclaimed Carmelo Sciampagna winner of “Chocolate Master Italia”.
Carmelo will represent Italy in Paris for the final in October 2007.

Carmelo Sciampagna is a young chocolatier (28 years old) coming from Palermo (Sicily). He is presently attending a professional training at Castalimenti, the prestigious Italian confectioner school.

The “Chocolate Master Italia” took place in Rimini during the SIGEP, Italian yearly exhibition for bakery and pastry.
15 competitors challenged during three exciting days about the theme ‘National Myths and Legends’. The first day all the competitors built up the showpieces and during the second and the third they worked on dipped and moulded pralines, pastries and mystery desserts.

Mr. Knam won the Mystery Dessert Award; Mr. Tagliazucchi won the Chocolate Pastry Award and Mr Sciampagna collected, in addition to the Global Award, the Showpiece Award, the Pralines Award and the press Award.

The international jury was composed of important confectioners: Mr. Slitti (President of the Jury), Mr. Massari, Mr. Freguja (Ambassador Cacao Barry), Mr. Santoro, Mr. Pina, Mr. Le Rose, Mr. Rosso, Mr. Montersino, Mr. Caldana, Mr. Anzellotti, Mr. Toma (Ambassador Cacao Barry), Mr. Rosset (Ambassador Cacao Barry), Mr. Elguera (Ambassador Cacao Barry), Mr. Bourdeaux and Mr. Bechoux.
